    The Achievement School District
The five Achievement Schools are part of the Achievement School District portfolio. The Achievement School District (ASD), was created in January 2010 when the Tennessee legislature enacted the Tennessee First to the Top Act – the most sweeping education law passed in Tennessee in over two decades. The First to the Top Act was a critical piece of the Tennessee application to the national Race to the Top contest, with Tennessee being one of first two states in the country to be awarded funding. The ASD was charged with “building the possible” by moving the bottom 5% of the schools in the state into the top 25% within five years.

    Welcome to Frayser
Within Memphis, the ASD identified the Frayser community as the community with the greatest need because 11 of its 14 public schools were in the bottom five percent. In effect, a child born in Frayser was highly likely to spend his or her entire PK-12 experience in bottom 5% schools. In April 2012, the Achievement Schools organization was founded, with Frayser Achievement Elementary School, Corning Achievement Elementary School, and Westside Achievement Middle School.

    Year Two
A year later, the Achievement Schools added Georgian Hills Achievement Elementary School and Whitney Achievement Elementary School to the network, bringing the total number of schools in the network to five and students served to 1,700.
